{NEWS} Seoul Music Awards Presenters “It’s Okay ELFs…”
February 5, 2010 at 9:40 am | 2,049 views

As we reported before, Super Junior along with SNSD and SHINee celebrated Kyuhyun’s birthday in Seoul Music Awards. As much as viewers enjoy the extra clip of SM Family loving moments, netizens just could not let them get away with it.

Super Junior received countless criticisms from netizens for their “impudent” behavior. Super Junior who attended the ceremony, had a birthday cake for their member Kyuhyun – who just turned 23 – lit up the candle and sang for him. At that time, Lee EunKyul and Hong SooAh were on stage, presenting an award and due to the celebration, all attentions shifted to Super Junior’s table, hence infuriated netizens.

A few members of SNSD and SHINee who were sitting nearby gathered in the crowd to celebrate Kyuhyun’s birthday before returning back to their seats. They are considered disrespectful towards the artists who were on stage and netizens remarked that such act is not appropriate to be conducted in an prestigious award ceremony.

In the middle of the ongoing controversy, the sense of respect between Super Junior fans and both Hong SooAh and Lee EunKyul has drawn many attentions.

Soon after the news was out, Super Junior fans, ELFs visited Hong SooAh and Lee EunKyul’s minihompy and flooded the comments page with apology messages. “I’m sorry for causing a scandal” “I feel bad for upsetting you, I apologize on behalf of oppas”

In response to the overwhelming comments, Hong SooAh wrote in her minihompy, “Super Junior fans, ELF, do not worry about me. I’m fine.. you guys do not have to leave messages on my guestbook.” and showed her support to Super Junior “…happy birthday and congratulations for the award”.

Lee EunKyul also replied “The situation is all right. We certainly understand. ELFs, it’s okay to stop apologizing. I came to have fun so please need not to worry.” which made fans relieved.

An SM Rep explained, “Kyuhyun’s birthday cake was prepared by fans. The surprise birthday party was not planned”

Furthermore, fans noted that the celebration was done during a commercial break. Only the cake was shown at the end of the performance. In the fancam below, the crowds gathered around Super Junior’s table at around 0:12 and SNSD members returned to their seats at around 0:26. Then, ELFs chanted “Happy Birthday” at around 0:38 but immediately stop at 0:49, a moment before Hong SooAh and Lee EunKyul announced the winner of the Digital Music Award. In the last video, Super Junior stood up together with the rest of the audiences, celebrating the winning of their juniors, SNSD.

I tried to tone it down a little bit since they are reporting it from netizens’ perspectives

Clearly…. netizens need to stop looking for something to “attack” the boys with… haven’t they suffered enough??? and come on.. it probably only took like 10 seconds and it was DURING A COMMERCIAL BREAK~!! Okay, Lee EunKyul was probably doing some kind of a magic show on stage when it happened but it’s not like the boys wanted all the attentions for them and walked around the audiences, throwing confettis. I know we’re all biased, but they deserved a little celebration especially after what they have gone through.. and who said that SJ hasn’t apologized yet? It might not be in front of the public, but surely they have figured something out to solve the controversy *sigh*

Great detective work. The big question was the timing of it – during a commercial or a performance? It was quickly done during a break and everyone stepped right back into the program. Thanks for all of the kELFs for doing this. If anyone was to feel disrespected it would be EunKyul and SooAh and since they said they’re fine with it everyone should just drop it & move on.

i agree with you. they always find a way to just post articles that degrades SJ’s image. i was like WTF in my comment. ever since they became a site, i read how they always insult Dong with his weight and calling him a fatty. and look at how they reported Dong’s honest mistake? gooosh!

first of all, thank you to KELFs for being such nice fans. its more than what the international ELFs could ask for. <3 secondly, seriously… these netizens, don't they have anything better to do? it's like they are trying to find ways even the most smallest tiniest mistake that the boys are doing. when does celebrating one's bday seems wrong? gee. as far we all know, (and that included non-fans of SJ), the boys are ALWAYS respectful to seniors and even their juniors.
i honestly think that someone out there just wants to bring the boys down, one after another. but no, we are not going to let it happen because we 13elieve in their prom15e. <3

I am so glad that this thing has been cleared out, it just saddens me seeing netizens who are anti Super Junior bashed them. Super Junior has always been respectful to other people, why label Super Junior because of this? I just can’t understand some netizens, I am a netizens too but why spend so much time on hating other than loving? Thank you for sharing this^^

Hwaiting!! Its exciting to see them happy..It makes me feel happy too.. Well.. they often have such tight schedules that its difficult to find time celebrating their precious members birthday together at times.. moreover its during a commercial break…. Hopefully netizens can relax on their extreme views once in a while.. Birthday should be a happy occassion and I wish that SuJu can keep up this wonderful spirit!!

Its definitely an unforgettable birthday celebration for my beloved prince Kyu!~~~~~~~~~~

It’s a good thing you wrote this article but I doubt some netizens would be able to find this and realize that it was not a disruptive celebration at all , that the PD just decided to show a small portion of it as the break was ending .
